Cleveland Geological Society
The Cleveland Geological Society was founded in 1957. Membership is open to people interested in all aspects of geology.
Monthly meetings feature talks on diverse topics, such as the geology of far-flung places, explanations of local points of interest and paleontology. Members and visiting geologists are invited to speak.
The society also holds field trips. These are usually to local sites of interest geologically. However, we occasionally explore more distant locales.
The Cleveland Geological Society helps support a number of Museum programs. Among these are the summer Donald S. Dean Adopt-A-Student Program and Earth Science Day in October.
Events
Please note that meetings have been changed from the second Wednesday of the month to the third Wednesday. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm in Classroom A on the lower level of the Museum, unless otherwise noted. Guests are welcome. Anyone may bring fossil, mineral and rock specimens to meetings for identification.
If the museum closes due to bad weather, that evening's Cleveland Geological Society meeting and all other night events are automatically cancelled.
Earth Science Day 2009 took place on Saturday October 17, during National Earth Science Week—Sunday October 11 through Saturday October 17, 2009. Earth Science Day 2010 will take place on Saturday, October 16.
